An ancient Sufi word which translates as a blessing, or as the breath or essence of life from which the evolutionary process unfolds.
Thus begins the first third party full scenario for Marathon 2, the hit game for the Macintosh created by Bungie systems.
It is two years after the battle on Lh'owon. It appears that your life as the security guard on the USEC ship Marathon has gone into overtime. A strange message on the terminal shows a plea for help. It seems as if an old friend is trying to get her life, and yours, back on track.
This is a project that I started on my own simply because I wanted to work on my own fictional Marathon story. This scenario will not have as many levels as the original Marathon 2 did, but it will offer a seamless continuation of the game. You may enjoy this or toss it in the trash at your leisure. Only one single player level is given here, with two net levels. I expect to have the entire game done by early March. Originally, this was just going to be a collection of net maps, but I've decided to make it a full-fledged scenario.
Some of you may ask why I'm bothering to waste my time doing this. Odd: you just never know when the creative spark is going to hit. The last time I got this involved in a project was when I started working with Alias on Silicon Graphics workstations in college. It's too bad I never got that job at Lucasfilm.
Kudos to Bungie for allowing Marathon 2 to be as modular as it is. If it weren't for them, I'd probably not even bother since I'd have to patch the M2 application itself.
Special thanks to my wife Mary who's probably one of the few people in the world that understands that when the creative spark ignites, the roll doesn't stop.
And last, but not least, thanks to Ron Fricke and Michael Stearns for the film 'Baraka'. Never before have I learned that life is more than what it seems to be.
